At tonight’s meeting, most of which was conducted in nonpublic, the SAU 55 board voted to give Dr. Metzler the following:
4% bonus (the maximum allowed under his contract);
6.75% salary raise.
His combined compensation (not including a $10,000 a year annuity) will be $155,050.
According to the current DOE list of superintendent salaries in the state, Dr. Metzler will now be the second highest paid superintendent – unless and until the few others who are currently ahead of him also get a raise.
The vote for the bonus was 9-1. The vote for the raise was 9-1. I’ll let you guess the identity of the “1.”
Before the start of the non-public, Sean Murphy, chairman of the Hampstead Board of Selectmen, made public comment to the SAU board concerning the superintendent’s advisory committees which he believes (quite correctly) violate New Hampshire’s Right to Know law.
After the non-public deliberations, the chairman of the SAU board, Peter, Bealo, announced the vote and the decisions, which is why I am free to report them here.
