Metzler Gets Bonus and Raise

At tonight’s meeting, most of which was conducted in nonpublic, the SAU 55 board voted to give Dr. Metzler the following:

4% bonus (the maximum allowed under his contract);

6.75% salary raise.

His combined compensation (not including a $10,000 a year annuity) will be  $155,050.

According to the current DOE list of superintendent salaries in the state, Dr. Metzler will now be the second highest paid superintendent  – unless and until the few others who are currently ahead of him also get a raise.

The vote for the bonus was 9-1.  The vote for the raise was 9-1.  I’ll let you guess the identity of the “1.”

Before the start of the non-public, Sean Murphy, chairman of the Hampstead Board of Selectmen, made public comment to the SAU board concerning the superintendent’s advisory committees which he believes (quite correctly) violate New Hampshire’s Right to Know law.

After the non-public deliberations, the chairman of the SAU board, Peter, Bealo, announced the vote and the decisions, which is why I am free to report them here.

    This is really getting out of hand. In the midst of all of this turmoil in the district despite what Rob Collins says…how is this allowed to happen? Sandown , Danville, and Hampstead are seeing the writing on the wall….the intricate web Dr. Metzler has woven, is beginning to unravel.

    Who else got 6.75% raises last year? Especially with the education results this district is showing…

    When Carolyn Morse sues for violating her rights and costs the district a million dollars, will that come out of Dr. Metzlers pocket?

    Even Plaistow is starting to ask questions about what the heck is going on in the district. Is there a way Danville, Sandown, and Hampstead can move to have the school board members removed for dereliction of duty, and have Dr. Metzler sent packing?

    If you follow each “issue” or problem to its source, they keep leading back to one person….the Superintendent, he is an inexperienced superintendent and ineffective leader. Send him and the board packing.

  2. And I thought Massachusetts was home of the hack-o-rama, where public employees are distinguished by arrogance, incompetence, and a mistaken sense of entitlement. The disease has apparently migrated north.

    The voters can do anything. You’re powerful as a group. Get it together, and clean house, otherwise you run the risk of becoming another tax-a-chusetts.

    I find it more than just a little concerning that the other Sandown rep voted for this. Isn’t he listening to his constituents? Isn’t he paying attention? The voters made their will very clear by re-electing you.
