Dr. Metzler Apologizes to Towns

Dr. Metzler issued a letter to the district towns today apologizing for the 6-week delay in filing the end-of-year financial report to the Departments of Revenue and Education which is required for the towns to set their tax rates. It was a very nice letter that did not explain why the critical report was so late. Arthur Green filed a Right to Know request for the document on October 5th and the legally required response as to when it would be available was due today.

Not only is the information in the reports needed for setting town tax rates but it also reveals the preliminary cost per pupil for Timberlane in the 2014-15 year. We next await the staffing report.

The SAU is currently in the process of filling the Assistant Business Administrator position that has been vacant for some months.

Dear Select Boards,

Please allow this letter to serve as my personal apology for the late filing of the state year-end financial and revised revenue reports that were due to the Department of Revenue Administration and Department of Education on September 1st. I have been assured these reports will be filed by end of day today.

It is important to note that I do not take this matter lightly as I realize this delay in filing has adversely affected the process in setting the tax rate in your towns. I also understand that our ability to rely on one another to fulfill our legal obligations is paramount and, as such, I will give my undivided attention to these filings in the future.

Feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss this further.

Sincerely,

Dr. Earl Metzler
