Grosky Calls Sandown Central a “Luxury”

In this video clip from the controversial Dec. 11 Timberlane Budget Committee meeting, the chairman, Jason Grosky, swallows the administration’s position hook, line and sinker. Without any data whatsoever except building cost per pupil and a completely unscrutinized cost savings for facilities retirement that did not include offsetting costs for moving programs, Mr. Grosky slams Sandown for having two elementary schools, one of which he calls a “luxury.” Then he tries to engender resentment among district towns and in the bargain, he gratuitously insults Sandown’s desire for lower taxes and its representatives.

Arthur Green has complained about the district being grossly overstaffed by 76 positions (not all teachers). In this clip, Mr. Grosky berates us for objecting to closing a school while complaining about overstaffing. The reduction of 21 positions he talks about is just 9 positions from a defunct Sandown Central and 12 currently unfilled positions that shouldn’t even be in the budget to begin with and didn’t count in Arthur Green’s calculation of overstaffing. We need to cut staff. We may need to close a school, but this is not the way to go about either. Further, Mr. Grosky seems to think it is his job as a budget committee member to protect the employment rate in the district rather than the effective delivery of services by the district. We collect taxes from families to deliver services not to protect unneeded jobs.

Mr. Grosky’s wife was recently hired as a Public Relations Consultant for the district. Her salary is being paid from the current year’s budget (2014/2015).

Mr. Grosky represents the people of Atkinson. Here is what he said:

    Thinks?

Perhaps when your constituents recognize that all actions point to the above as not a concept but an operable fact, they might rise up and throw seat-warmers like Grosky to the fishes. Otherwise they are saddled with more than 80% of their property tax serving to provide a morose form of political entertainment along with the main point: jobs for the otherwise unemployable.

A luxury is defined as something you don’t need, probably cannot afford, and offers little. Understood thusly, the Grosky pot is calling the kettle black.

This is the second time Mr Grosky presented his “opinion during a public meeting as the CHairman of BudCom: the district responsible for the “employment” of people vs the BudCom being responsible for providing a responsible budget that allows for the ability of TRSD providing a strong education to the students.

I must note he was NOT speaking of behalf of the BudCom.
